Rise Of The Tomb Raider Was Not A Flop, Says Microsoft

For an   Xbox   One exclusive. Basically, Microsoft is in no mood to admit their mistake of launching Rise of the Tomb Raider on the same day as a certain other game. One that goes by the name of Fallout 4. While both are great titles on their own, this latest Tomb Raider game was reviewed as a really good game, in many ways better than the previous title in the series. And it was also a console exclusive for the Xbox One. And it pretty much bombed. Microsoft has not provided any sales figures, and the NPD numbers that reveal retail sales have not even mentioned Rise of the Tomb Raider in the top ten. But  according  to Games Marketing Head Aaron Greenberg, the game put up a good performance: “It launched in a very crowded window, but it has done well. A lot of people bought both Fallout 4 and Tomb Raider. At the same time we know a lot of people may have bought Tomb Raider and wait on Fallout or bought Fallout and waited on Tomb Raider.” Point being, ...

Lumia 650 Launching In Early 2016, Microsoft Confirms

Some good news to end the year! Microsoft has officially confirmed that the Lumia 650 smartphone is in development, and all set to launch in early 2016. This is, obviously, the successor to the fan favorite and highly popular Lumia 640 series of handsets. This new  Windows 10 Mobile  phone will be part of the company’s midrange phone lineup, and although it is set for arrival early next year, information regarding this particular device is quite limited. We’ve had previous little in the way of rumors and leaked details. However, Microsoft’s Chief Marketing Officer Chris Capossela spilled the beans on the Lumia 650 during the  Windows Weekly   podcast , confirming that the company was working on it. He refused to provide any specifics in terms of hardware or when can we expect to see it debut. The upcoming MWC 2016 (Mobile World Congress) event in Barcelona is a fair bet from here. That said, there are possible hardware specifications that have been thro...

How Microsoft Can Win At Mobile In 2016

At the top of the mobile Christmas tree sit Apple and  Samsung . Apple eats the huge majority of the entire industry’s profits. Around 90% according to some metrics. Samsung’s wide range of premium and mid-range devices see it generate huge sales, but nowhere near as much profit. Between them, they consume a huge amount of the industry’s production resources. That includes screens, processor foundries, valuable RAM, and even the factory workers dedicated to building them. Further down the tree are struggling older brands,  Sony , BlackBerry, LG, HTC and others. All of these players have seen their market share collapse, their brands become a brief highlight reel as buyers rapidly moved onto other devices. Then, coming up from the bottom are rising Chinese stars like Xiaomi, Huawei, ZTE and Micromax. They started in their homeland with low-end devices, but are now rapidly moving up the chain with better devices and international ambitions. Microsoft in M...

Microsoft Windows 10 review

windows 10 is the Goldilocks version of Microsoft's venerable PC operating system -- a "just right" compromise between the familiar dependability of Windows 7, and the forward-looking touchscreen vision of Windows 8. This new Windows, available as a free upgrade for existing Windows 7 and Windows 8 noncorporate users, is built from the ground up to pursue Microsoft's vision of a unified OS that spans all devices without alienating any one platform. It's an attempt to safeguard Microsoft's crumbling software hegemony, assailed on all sides by Google and Apple. And it's a vision of the future as Microsoft sees it, where a single user experience spans every piece of technology we touch. Welcome to Windows as a service. Yes, this new OS is chock-full of fresh features. To name just a few: a lean, fast Internet Explorer replacement called Edge; Microsoft's Siri-like voice-controlled virtual assistant, Cortana; and the ability to stream real-time gam...

ScatterChat

The Internet is a notorious breeding ground for people who want to invade your privacy, and instant messaging is increasingly under attack from snoopers. ScatterChat represents a great way to make sure that your private conversations stay private, by allowing you to connect securely through Gaim encryption technology. Although it takes quite a while to install the application, largely taken up by generating the encryption key, once it's running it requires little technical knowledge and operates in much the same way as an ordinary IM client. At the centre of the program is the Buddy List, which helps you effectively manage your contacts and send messages at the click of a name. The program supports all the major IM networks and despite the fact that the encryption nibbles at your connection a little more than a normal client, it represents a great way to stay in touch and stay safe. Notes Please note that the developer no longer seems to be supporting this cli...
